Gianna began her career while she was still in college, she started from media coverage to journalism. From there, she got a job with ABC as a field producer, booker, and digital correspondence but she was not satisfied because that was not what she wanted and left the company. She sought funds for a while and started raising funds for her ambitious long-form documentary set in Haiti which later captured the attention of Vice.

During Gianna’s work as a journalist, she went undercover to reveal the sexual abuse of women and children by the United Nations personnel known as Peacekeepers Turned Perpetrators. The story got the attention of several people and paved the way for Gianna to the Vice as the video was aired in the show. From there, Gianna also became a full-time worker of the Vice and a good friend with co-worker Isobel Yeung.

In the year 2013, she won an award at the GLAAD Award Show for Outstanding TV Journalism. She was also called for a TEDx Talk in 2014.
