WHO IS SARAH POLLEY? BIO

Sarah Polley, a writer, activist, actress was born on January 8, 1979 to Diane Elizabeth Polley, she is the last born of five siblings who are Susy, John, Mark and Joanna. Her mother, Diane was an actress and died of cancer few days to Sarah’s 11th birthday. ‏Sarah had a rough childhood which include her been teased about not looking like her father. As she grew up, she later discovered her mother had an affair with Harry Gulkin which led to her birth, a DNA test affirmed their relationship as father and daughter.

Polley grew up in Toronto and schooled at Subway Academy II, after which she later enrolled at Earl Haig Secondary School but dropped out of school when she was 15years old, she started living on her own after she dropped out from school through the help of Ontario Coalition Against Poverty.

CAREER

Sarah first role was when she was still a child, at age four she acted as Molly in ‘One Magic Christmas’, she also featured in William Fruet’s sci-fi horror film Blue Monkey. When she clocked eight, she acted in the TV series Ramona acting as Ramona, she also played as one of the main cast in Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Road to Avonlea, a TV series was what brought Polley to limelight where she was acting as Sara Stanley.

In year 1991, Sarah was invited for an award ceremony were she wore a piece to show protest against the first Gulf War, she was asked to remove it but refused and this led to a constraint relationship between she and Disney but she completed her role as Sara Stanley in ‘Road to Avonlea’. On CBC TV series, Straight up, she featured as Lily which made her bag a Gemini Award for Best Performance in a Children’s or Youth Program, she was also a cast in ‘The Sweet Hereafter’ which brought her to notice in the United States.

In 2000, Sarah was one of the cast in ‘Almost Famous’ but stopped featuring in the movie for ‘The Law of Enclosures’. She won Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role because of her performance in ‘My Life Without Me’. In 2005, she was a cast in The Secret Life of Words and was nominated for Best European Actress by the European Film Academy.

The following year, Sarah Polley starred in ‘Slings and Arrows’ in it’s last season. Her last appearance in movie was in Bruce MacDonald’s film Trigger
